Aluminum foil containers
How is the aluminum foil for foil containers made?
The manufacture of aluminum foil is similar to making pasta at home. A large piece of almost pure aluminum is rolled several times through giant steel rollers, which reduces the thickness of the aluminum block and spreads it out to make it longer. Lubricants are added during the rolling process to facilitate operation. The thickness becomes thinner with each successive pass through the rollers. This process is repeated until the foil thickness is reached, and then the large aluminum foil is cut into the required width.
It seems simple, but the actual process may not be easy. For example, when the aluminum is introduced, it is heated. If the temperature is too high, it will stick to the rollers, so the pressure of the rollers must be carefully controlled.
When the aluminum sheet is 5mm thick, it must be rolled again in the cold rolling stage. First, the sheet is rolled on rollers and fed into the cold rolling mill for rolling. At this point, the shiny and dull sides of the aluminum are created. The aluminum is now too thin, and the tension required to transport the aluminum with cold rollers can easily break the aluminum. Aluminum sheets have two sides, the aluminum side that contacts the steel roller is smoother and more shiny, and the aluminum side that contacts itself becomes matte.
Tin foil and aluminum foil?
Tin foil is no longer made of tin because it is more expensive than aluminum and not as durable. However, the term tin foil is used to refer to aluminum foil in many areas. Therefore, the information on this page applies to both aluminum foil and tin foil, as the two terms now refer to the same product.
